Any person committed to the city jail by judgment of the municipal court or in default of the payment of fines and costs of prosecution, may be compelled on each day of the week except Sunday, to perform eight hours labor upon the public streets, alleys, sidewalks, public buildings or grounds, or public works of the city of Aberdeen, while serving the sentence imposed by said judgment.
