A. Unless specific provisions of this chapter require impounding for a longer period of time, if an impounded animal is not claimed and redeemed within seventy-two (72) hours, excluding Sundays and holidays, it shall become the property of the city and it may be sold, relinquished for adoption, or humanely destroyed by the animal control officer; provided, that any person who wishes to adopt an unspayed or unneutered dog or cat shall first have the animal spayed or neutered.

B. Each person adopting an impounded animal from the city of Aberdeen shall pay a nonrefundable fi fteen dollar ($15.00) adoption fee.

Prior to the adoption of 6313 on 12/12/2001, Section 6.04.180 read as follows.

A.
