The building code commission shall consist of eight members, all of whom shall serve without compensation. The membership of the commission shall be as follows: two members shall be appointed from the membership of the Aberdeen city council; one member shall be a licensed architect; two members shall be general building contractors; one member shall be a specialty contractor; one member shall be a retailer of building materials and supplies; and one member shall be a registered engineer. The building official and the fire chief shall be ex-officio members of the building code commission. All members shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the city council. At least five members shall be residents of the city of Aberdeen. Up to three members may be nonresidents of the city of Aberdeen but shall have a current business license to do business in the city of Aberdeen. The members from the Aberdeen city council shall be appointed for terms of one year. The other six members shall be appointed for terms of two years, which terms shall be staggered so that three appointments expire one year and three the following year. Terms of office shall expire on December 31st of the appropriate year. The members of the commission may be removed by the mayor, subject to the approval of the city council, for such cause as the mayor and city council shall deem sufficient.
