Landscaping required pursuant to this chapter shall be installed in accordance with the approved site plan prior to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy for the project. The department, the board of adjustment, the planning commission, or the city council may require performance bonds or other appropriate security, including letters of credit and set aside letters, to insure that the landscaping will be installed and maintained for one year, according to the approved plan and specifications.
