The director shall designate standard containers to be furnished by the city for the collection of solid waste and recyclables. The director may, in the case of business establishments or other special instances, approve containers of different size or construction than the containers furnished by the city; provided, that solid waste and recyclable materials shall always be kept in watertight covered containers designed to prevent the scattering of waste.

Prior to the adoption of 6431 on 01/10/2007, Section 13.08.070 read as follows.

Approved containers shall consist of the 65 or 95 gallon wheeled plastic containers ("toters") and the recycle bins furnished by the city. The director may, in the case of business establishments or other special instances, approve containers of different size and/or construction; provided, that putrescible wastes shall always be kept in watertight covered containers and; further provided, that all containers shall be so designed as to prevent the scattering of waste. Prior to the adoption of 6327 on 07/17/2002, Section 13.08.070 read as follows.

Approved containers shall consist of a mini-can or standard container or containers and the recycle bins furnished by the city. The director may, in the case of business establishments or other special instances, approve containers of different size and/or construction; provided, that putrescible wastes shall always be kept in watertight covered containers and; further provided, that all containers shall be so designed as to prevent the scattering of waste.
